Have any of you tested out this combination? I'm excited to be able to get my hands on the Alexa for the first time this year at school and I am set on renting out a set of anamorphic lenses for my thesis film. The only thing that concerns me is that I don't think my school owns the right Alexa model for the 4:3 mode. Will shooting in 16x9 still work out okay on this camera?

It will work, but you'll end up with an image that has an aspect ratio of 3.56:1, so you'll have to crop extensively left and right if 2.40:1 is what you're after. Monitoring will also be an issue, as the 16:9 Alexas do not have a de-anamorphosing option in either the viewfinder of the monitor output, so your image will be squeezed.

The 16x9 we used to get 3.56:1 certainly had de-anamorphic on both the EVF and Mon out. Though I think that depends on whether they bought that upgrade or not. it was just a typical alexa.
