Do you watch your own raw footage?

and if so what do you look for? 

 

It sounds stupid but I do find it hard to sift through my own raw footage for review though I never feel like some editors chose the best takes to use.

Why not do it? It's always good to know what you end up with. I often have to edit my own stuff, unfortunatey.
Because I think it’s kind of wasted potential. An editor that hasn't been on location and thus only knows the raw footage, without knowledge about how the shots were constructed, is in my eyes closer to the viewer. He sees the footage with the eyes of an objective viewer and because of that he can edit it more comprehensively. At least in most cases.

But back to topic. As you said, I thinks it's also important to know the stuff that you shot, to prevent good takes or shots from being overlooked by the editor.

I always watch my stuff, even if I'm not involved with the post process. I think thats the only way to become a better filmmaker, you need to see what you do and how you can make it better.
