ND gel alternative?

Anybody ever try to use stuff like this as a cheaper alternative to ND gel? Seems like the clinginess might get tricky but maybe the wrinkle factor would be diminished.

Difficult to know what the density is in advance, or how even it is. The colour might not be neutral either.

The way I read it the adhesive is only good for one application.

Most rolls of gel are around $125 for 25 feet or five bucks a running foot.  That unknown stuff (window tint?) doesn't seem like a bargain.
