Hey everybody

In the upcoming feature production we're jumping visually between two times. A modern, contemporary style and a old gritty look

I'm looking for some recommendations for an old, contrast S16mm Zoom for handheld operating.

The focal length should be somewhere from 9,5-50mm and should open around a T2.

But as written above, even more important is the look. It should be contrasty, almost dirty...

I'm open for any "tips and hints"...

Philipp

I suspect the production design and lighting will play a more important role than the choice of zoom, but if you want a lightweight, contrasty S16 zoom that opens to around T2, you're probably looking at a Zeiss 11-110 T2.2 or maybe a Canon 8-64 T2.4.

Some other nice zooms in that range are the Canon 7-63 and Cooke 10.4-52, but they are a tad slower. A faster, but shorter range zoom is the Cooke 10-30 which is T1.5 and very lovely, but just on the edge of hand-holdable.

As always with older lenses, the condition is important - coating damage or internal fogging will reduce the contrast.

You can also get the zeiss 10-100 cheaper than the upgraded version and use a 1.4x lens extender to get sensor coverage. You loose a stop and bottom end becomes 14mm but you'll save 3000$
