I shoot my videos on my panasonic GH3 1080 720, edit in final cut pro x, and export as a MP4. I like to post my work on Instagram. But when doing so, the quality significantly degrades to around 360 and maybe around 240. Is there a reason for this? It is because of my camera? or should I export as something different like MOV or AVCHD?

I usually export 1080 or 720 mp4 for instagram. No problems there.

How does the problem occur?

As long as you're properly encoding your MP4's at 1080 or 720, they should upload that way. If they are not, then you might want to contact Instgram support. If your camera shoots 720/1080, and you shoot in those formats, then the camera is not the issue. Another issue could be your editing software. I have no idea about Final Cut, but you might be exporting the 1080 or 720 timeline in a smaller resolution.

Can you check the frame size of the exported MP4 before uploading to Instgram on MAC? On a PC I'd right-click on the file and select 'properties', then nav over to the details tab - where it'll give a h v. w dimension. Don't know how this is done on Mac, since I only use my Macbook for very basic stuff and have, of late, taken to giving it to my motherto use.
