I'm familiar with quite a few of them, and I'm excited about the new Canon lens announced at NAB this year (the 18-80).

But I'm curious if if anyone can suggest a nice all-purpose zoom that can be bought used.  Something that can manage interviews, then stay on the camera for b-roll.

S35 coverage.

The only S35mm zooms you're going to find in that price range are the new Tokina cinema zooms (16-28mm and 50-135mm), used Red zoom lenses (18-50mm, 17-50mm), and the cheaper stills lens rehousings like the GL Optics 18-35mm Sigma rehousing.

And that's pretty much it I'm afraid.

Absence of something like this is a long standing problem.

Canon launched their 18-80mm zoom at NAB. They'll sell lots, but it seems slightly too compromised in terms of speed and ergonomics to me.
