i have a quick copyright question, as long as its for my showreel can i use any music of popular artist without their permission or not ?

cause thats what a lawyer told me. hwo do you guys do it with yoru reels ? do you get the rights for the song/songs ?

its not for a commercial use i guess.

of course, but what i mean is, i dont sell the dvd with the reel on it or anything, so i dont make a direct profit with the song.

Everyone does that on showreels. I've got music on mine from a major American rock act and so does Darius Khondji, I'm sure. It's kind of a grey area in copyrighting.

Strictly speaking no - you're not allowed to. Fair use? Maybe, but probably wouldn't hold in a court. But since you didn't make any money out of it, then at the worst that could happen is that they'd send you a cease-and-desist letter, nothing much else. And then all you do is change tune to another band and you can go on 10 more years... :P
