I'm trying to restore an old 1960s Bell and Howell 16mm Filmosound projector (TQ1). I've removed the old socket and replaced with a new one. This has enabled to power it up for the first time in a few decades and all seems to be well so far. I've also bought a can of compressed air, so I can give it a good clean.

However, I'm concerned about what I hear to be a common problem with the worm gear on this model. It's something I'd like to check on. The only issue is that I don't know what I'm looking for or where. Can anyone help? Where exactly is the gear located and what kind of thing should I be looking out for?

Charles,

If you have the time, join this site: http://8mmforum.film.../ultimatebb.cgi   There are many there who are familiar with your projector and cracked worm gears. Many of them are from your side of the pond, they can steer you to cine techs in the UK that can replace the gear for you should you not want to do it yourself.

A youtube about worm gears.... https://www.youtube....h?v=znCTbFE2bgI

Good luck!

Charlie

Thank you very much. I think I'll do that. Seems like a good place to seek advice.
