I gather from the posts I've read in this forum that HD CAM-SR is superior to HD CAM. Can anyone suggest a facility that does this? How does the cost compare to HD CAM? Are tapeless transfers directly to a drive feasible?

I'm not sure what you mean by putting "tapeless" in the context of HDCAM-SR. It IS significantly better than HDCAM.
1) Much lighter compression
2) 4:4:4 RGB color (vs. 3:1:1 YCC color in HDCAM)
3) full 1920x1080 raster resolution (vs. 1440x1080 in HDCAM)
4) 12-channels of audio (vs. 4-CH HDCAM)

As far as suggesting a facility, what exactly do you need done? Most of our work now involves HDCAM-SR at some stage.

I think in this case 'tapeless' means scanning direct to hard drives. We do it all the time, in fact, my scanner cannot scan direct to tape because it is not real-time but who cares?

if there is no tape recorder at the receiving end then the scanner can run at any speed it wishes, in the future this may well be much faster than real time for SD and maybe for HD.
