On a popup ad for Valerian I'm seeing it's in both 3D and Real D 3D.  What is D 3D or whatever it's called?

I've never heard of this.

There are two principal systems for the theatrical display of stereoscopy. The most common is RealD, made by the company of the same name, which uses circularly-polarised glasses. The other is Dolby's 3D system, which uses notch filters to separate the two eyes based on the red, green and blue primaries used to project them.
