Someone wanna sell me a pair of 20 year old Hi-Hi and Lollipops. Its probably not in use for a real long time nor maintained. Light surface corrosion is evident but I am wondering are these safe to use?

Will clamping actions be affected by ill maintenance and old age? I know there are gaskets O rings, brakes and discs. Should these be changed? Does clamping action rely purely on metal parts or are there rubber parts too? ie hardening or decay of rubber...

Wondering if its worth the trouble even if the price is cheap...

Riser casting usually have a brass or other soft metal metal brake shoe.    Really nothing to go bad there.  Surface corrosion in the plating pr the riser tubes can be removed with a fine Scotchbrite pad and WD40.  You can substitute crumpled aluminum for foil or old blackwrap for the Scotchbrite pad.  Check the riser tubes and legs for dents, these will become a possible point of failure in the stand.
