Hi,
This is the first time iam joining your club.
I recently bought a Panasonic MX-500EN miniDv camcorder. Its a 3 ccd camera.
I would like to know if i can seriously do some shoots which can be later edited in the form of a short documentary.

You can shoot a documentary with this camera, or just about any other functioning camera. DV is only going to look as good as DV, so don't expect HD quality. But if your final product is video it'll do OK.

Watch your lighting, focus, white balance and levels and you'll be fine. Get someone to handle your sound, and use a lavalier or boomed shotgun mic for your talent.
