Has anyone here seen it? I thought it was incredible in every aspect.

 

How was it not nominated for an Academy Award for Best Editing and Best Cinematography?

I think it had to do with it being shot by PT Anderson who is not a member of the ASC.

You don't have to be a member of the ASC to be Oscar nominated .. ?

No, anyone can be nominated, but if your are nominated Robin, there's probably a good chance the ASC will invite you to join :)

I watched it. I found it uninspiring.  Some aspects were decent, but most of the film I felt was flat and boring.  But I thought the same thing about The Master too.

It was the best movie of last year by far. Possibly Anderson's best movie after "Punch-Drunk Love", with "The Master" close to both. Leslie Manville, I mean, come on. And Alma is one of the more fascinating characters created for the screen in some time. The story is very much like the movies it's inspired by while also maintaining a bit of a fairy tale undertone and mood to it.

I think that PTA said that he waved his DP credit because it was very much a joint effort with him, his gaffers and camera operators; this made the film ineligible to be nominated for cinematography at the oscars
