I'm going to purchase a HDV camera in the next 1-6 months. When I do will I have to upgrade my Final Cut Pro 4 to the latest FCP5? Will I have to trade in my 22" Mac Cinema Screen to the latest 23" Cinema Screen? I understand that my screen as good as it is does not support Hi-Def.
Thank you.

Dual processors (G5) and a lot of RAM.

HDV is many times slower than DV editing. I demo'd it at the Apple Store and was disappointed with the severe reduction in speed. It would have required an entirely new computer purchase. Good for Apple; bad for me. Money is easy to spend, yet very hard to earn.

There are HDV plug-ins for FCP 4. FCP 5 can edit HDV without such plug-ins. Apple's site has information on this. As far as your monitor is concerned, you should not have to upgrade it. It's just a resolution and I can't see how it would make any difference. We've edited HD footage with Sony CRT's for years.
