I own two, love them. But be careful, in the two I own, the construction is quite different. One is more solid, more tuned. The other is looser, but still gives a great picture.

i think they're great first cameras. at least they were when i got one in '96, when they were a great bargain at $500/$750modified... but i hear they're a lot pricier now.

one suggestion i'd make is that you opt for the modified version from reel trading with the loop formers removed. it makes loading a lot easier and you're less likely to have scratches. i believe they remachine and polish the gate and other parts, though my memory is spotty on this.

other notes:
- it's way too loud for dialogue
- viewfinder is pretty big & bright for the price range
- someone sells a "K3 speed kit" that includes an attachable hand crank handle that will probably make a big difference. the standard flap thingee for winding is a real hand killer. i haven't used the speed kit handle myself, but i had a makeshift handle and it makes a huge difference.
- also, don't use the shutter release that comes with it. it broke off inside mine... quality soviet engineering.

hope this helps,
jaan
