The group of filmmakers I hang out with would like a Super 16mm camera with a video tap. Between us, we currently have two cameras. Our Aaton LTR-54 is set up for Super 16 but has no video tap. Our Arri SRII has a video tap, but -- you guessed it -- will only shoot regular 16mm.

I'm thinking it will be easier and cheaper to get a video tap for the Aaton than to convert the Arri to Super 16 (which, based on my limited research, looks excessively complex and expensive).

Any of you guys have any insight regarding this situation?

Thanks...

Do you think adding a tap to the LTR would be better than getting the Arri upgraded to Super 16?

I'm not really sure who is charging what for 16SR Super16 mods... I'd invest in the camera which is in better condition and the one you're more comfortable with. The cameras are pretty much interchangable as far as function and sound... ultimately choose the package that your most comfortable with.
