I can't find a 23.97 setting on the varicam. My post guy says to set the camera at 24 fps at 59.974 hz. So I did. But in some of the manuals they say set the camera at 23.97. Can it be done?

I have never encountered a menu item that will allow the camera to run at 23.97. I quickly flipped through my Varicam manual and didn't find any information about shooting at that speed. I'm not saying that it can't be done somehow, but I've never seen/heard of it.

59.94 Hz seems to be the standard (at least with our editors). Hope this helps.

You can set the timecode to run at 23.98 in the vtr menu under TC/UB. There is a 30/24 setting that I believe if set to 24 is actually 23.98 when the camera is set to 59.94

Bob,
I believe that if you set the cam to 24p, it is actually 23.976 already.

Must be set at 24frames and 59.94Hz for 23.976fps.

The VariCam frequency is switchable between 60Hz and 59.94Hz. When the frequency is set at 60Hz it records at the indicated frame rate. When set at 59.94Hz all the frame rates are actually 0.1% slower than indicated. 30 becomes 29.97fps, 24 becomes 23.976fps and so on.

Hope that helps
