Hi everyone. I've been looking into buying a copy of the Professional Cameraman's Handbook, but I've noticed that the most recent edition was published in 1994. I really don't want to shell out the dough for the book if there's going to be a new edition in the near future, so does anyone happen to know if the writers plan on releasing a 5th edition anytime soon?

Hello. Don't know if this will be good enough, but Paul Wheeler has written a book called "Practical Cinematography". The 2nd ed. is from 2005.

Maybe someone with more film (film mostly digital) experience than me can say if it's a good replacement or not?

Hi,

Paul Wheeler's books are very good, but not really a replacement for the Professional Cameraman's Handbook.

Don't know if there can be a 5th edition, now that Verne Carlson passed away a few years ago.

I'm not sure if Sylvia is still around, but who knows, perhaps she'll consult or possibly pass the torch to a more modern technically apt filmmaker for some of the new gadgets that have arised in the past 13 years...while still preserving the original text from previous editions, of course.

I agree that it's definitely time for an update.
There is no other book like it.
